Becoming a Lambeth Guide

Becoming a Lambeth Guide

A new course for tour guides is going to be run at Morley College from September 2021. This will put Lambeth on a par with the City of London, Westminster and other north of the Thames boroughs.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our borough and to bring its history to a wider audience.

Census Update

Census Update

The census office has announced that local Census Support Centres in and around Lambeth are now open. These centres have IT equipment that people can use to complete their census forms, and trained advisers to assist. It would be great if you could share details of these with your networks. These centres will be open throughout March and April.
Your health, and that of our support centre staff, is very important to us. All our census support centres will follow government safety guidelines about coronavirus (COVID-19).
You can either bring your own device, or use a laptop or tablet provided at the centre. All equipment and furniture will be sanitised between visits. You don’t need to bring ID with you, or to prove any information about yourself.
People will need to bring the access code that is printed on the letter they have been sent from the census. Alternatively, our advisers can help people to get a new code.

Census 2021

Census 2021

Local historians know full well the value of census data. However, it is not always appreciated that, although personal information is not revealed until 100 years after the census, anonymised data of potential value to historians starts to become available quite soon after the census is taken. The 2021 census is nearly upon us. There follows information from the census office about this year’s:

From this week every household in Lambeth will receive a letter letting people know how they can take part in the census. This is a once-a-decade survey of England and Wales which helps to support policy making, plan public services and inform where billions of pounds are spent, for example, on roads, schools and hospitals.
Each household must fill in the census by law.
If you need help completing your census questionnaire, there is plenty of support available:

  1. the census website– https://census.gov.uk/
  1. Census Telephone Support Centre– 0800 141 2021
  • For any questions you have about the census
