On the 14 June 1979, a group of enthusiasts met in a room above Eric’s Barber Shop, 84 Anerley Road, London, SE19 to discuss the future of their small group known as the Crystal Palace Exhibition Committee.

It was agreed after much discussion that an organisation would be formed to be known as the Crystal Palace Foundation. The organisation was to be dedicated to preserving the history of The Crystal Palace.

The Foundation was formally launched in the Conference Room of the National Sports Centre on 20 July 1979, the aims of which are:

  • to educate the public in the history and character of the Crystal Palace and the surroundings
  • to promote for the benefit of the public, the preservation and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest
  • to arrange and provide for or join in arranging and providing for the holding of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, classes and seminars
  • to publish work connected with the Crystal Palace
