Black History Month

Black History Month

As the Lambeth Heritage Festival comes to its close this week, Black History Month begins.
Lambeth Libraries has partnered with Black Cultural Archives and many local organisations, along with a selection of brilliant writers and artists, to deliver this fantastic programme of events. I hope you will join us. (Cllr Sonia Winifred – Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture).
The full programme is available here:

Local History Talks

Local History Talks

As earlier posts have advertised, Lambeth Archives have been giving a number of talks on-line because of the Covid-19 restrictions. Some of these have been recorded and are available for anyone to view when it suits them. We have created a new page on this site, “TALKS”, which lists all those available with direct links to the recordings.
As the summer rolls on, there will be more such talks by the Archives and there may well be ones from other members of the Forum. We will list all talks that we know about on that page.
The Lambeth Heritage Festival will go ahead this September, but most of that will be on-line only and that should generate more talks which, if recorded, we will add to our page.

Lambeth Archives in Lock-Down

Lambeth Archives in Lock-Down

Although the archives cannot be open for the time being, it does not mean the staff are idle, as our two previous posts here show.
Nor does it mean that you cannot progress your own research. To help we have a new page on this site: ARCHIVES GUIDES. Here you will find various guides and indexes which will help you to plan your research ready for when the archives re-open. We have also updated our LINKS page to other sites where you may be able to progress your research.
We are always open to suggestions; please email the webmaster.

Although our archives, libraries and museums closed,  nearly all have on-line resources to explore. Then there’s Layers of London where you can find out so much about your area and add your own information and stories. The Forum has its own Twitter account: find us here for your regular dose of history.
Stay in touch and stay safe.

Lambeth Archives Closure

Lambeth Archives Closure

We have received the following statement from the archives:

In response to concerns about the Covid-19 virus, Lambeth Archives will be closing at 3.00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday 20th March.
We will continue to monitor emails and, where possible answer enquiries. However this will be limited by the fact that staff will be working from home without access to the collections.
At the moment we do not know when the public service will reopen, but we will keep you advised.

The Minet Library, in the same building as the archives is also closing, so that the whole building will close.
